Slava and Som are not waiting for their dreams, but chasing them. Basically I want to say they are super busy. However, they both are healthy ladies who live in the real world. What can one New Yorker and one business woman cook? Pad Si Ew (ผัดซีอิ้ว) Thai style, it is, The only quick healthy dish that could please the two ladies in the house today. And Pad Si Ew is something real quick and rich in nutrients. It was a good choice if you ask me as a chef. And they were both very happy that all the cooking processes were simple and done faster than the speed of The Japanese Bullet Train.
This class didn't have that much to do, but it was full of joy. Lots and lots of interesting stories and actions came in and entertained while they were cooking. They both were new to cooking but they created the most amazing tasty Pad Si Ew that I ever had. One thing I know for sure is that they are busy people, but they stay positive. When they had to work with high heat and quick, they did it real nice. And so the noodles remained nice and soft.
I would say if the two ladies have more time in the kitchen they could open a restaurant. But it seems like it won't happen anytime soon. So who ever gets to taste their food, I would say, you are super lucky!
This is not the first time having immigrant's dish in the class, but it is the first Chinese immigrant's dish. In Thailand there are a number of Chinese who moved here from generations ago. And so, you can see and experience Thai versions of Chinese food in every city in Thailand. And I love that Katrin likes to cook something different and real!
Katrin chose to make Kha Nom Jeeb or Dumpling simply because she loves having it. And that's another great reason to learn how to cook something that you will and can enjoy. Working with Katrin is super duper fun and easy. She can finish the whole complicated work earlier than average cooks. The way she handled the knife was powerful and it flowed. She minced the garlic real nice and quick. The way she handled the egg dough was nice and fine.
She took only 4 hrs to finish mincing pork and garlic, marinating the filling, making egg dough, filling up the dumpling, preparing the side ingredients. And after all the work I would say the dumplings were a great reward for the day. She was a good cook here in the house.
